U14s FC (Kent Youth League)

Team Info

Head Coach: Duncan Shrimpton
I have been involved in football for over 30 years either playing or coaching. My coaching journey started 15 years ago running training sessions for West Farleigh FC in the Maidstone Premier Division. I completed my FA Youth Award Level 3 assessment in 2013 and Coerver Youth Diploma in 2014. I have been with the U12's FC for 6 years and am loving seeing them develop both as footballers and as individuals. During 2015 I have been working towards completing my UEFA-B. I only wish that I had done this whilst I was still playing.

Coaching Qualifications: FA Youth Award Level 3 & FA Level 2. Coerver Youth Diploma. UEFA-B in progress

Assistant Coach:Pete Gough
Having spent the last 4 years on the parents side watching my sons play I decided to step up and help out with my older sons team. I'm passionate about football and as a boy never had the opportunity to play outside of school but I have studied the delights of Gillingham FC from the terraces and seats for a long time now! I was a martial arts instructor and black belt in a couple of systems so bring with me some of the transferable skills that work well in our team: fitness, flexibility, core strength and discipline.
Coaching Qualifications:Intend to take FA Level 1 this season.

Coach: Spencer Alford
I have been at the club from a young age and during my U18 season, I took my 1st4Sport Level 1 coaching award and am keen to progress my coaching knowledge.
This is a great team to work with and the players ability levels and work rate are really high.
I value a strong work ethic and good discipline. I try to instil into the players that hard work always beats talent when talent does work hard.

Coaching Qualifications:FA Level 1

Football Philosophy
We concentrate on developing technical ability & the fundamental movements of football. Our warm up sessions are centred around games that promote football specific movements and trying to get as many touches of the ball as possible for every player in the first ten minutes. A ball each & no bus stop queues ever.
We try to use the session structure to promote our learning goals so as to reduce the number of coaching interventions required. We encourage our players to try new skills and to make mistakes as self learning often gives the best outcome. We believe that football is a series of 1v1 battles all across the pitch, and that every player in our team should have the ability to retain the ball and beat an opposition player in a 1v1 situation. We encourage teamwork and personal responsibility and recognise that many of the lessons learned in football are transferable life skills.
